5.0 out of 5 stars ***Clarification on "pet" version vs. toy version., January 10, 2012

(REAL NAME)
This ball is marketed by the company "Nite Ize". I noticed on their company website there were two versions it seemed of this ball. One was pictured in the box as pictured here on Amazon and listed as an outdoor toy for night time sports and play. The other was pictured packaged in a mesh little sack with attached tag and marketed as a water proof dog ball great for playing fetch in the park at dusk with your dog without worry of losing the ball. The features seemed to be the same for both which are (in great detail):

1. Water proof - replaceable button style battery is removeable only by removing very snugly fitted rubber plug in the center of the ball. Great for outdoor summer play in the pool or with your pet without worry of it landing in a puddle and ruining or your slobbery pooch getting moisture in the ball and ruining it by chewing on it.

2. Replaceable battery - no need to buy another when it stops working, especially great news if you happen to buy... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite dog-proof, October 2, 2010
By
Copwriter (Kennewick, Washington) - See all my reviews
These are great dog toys, especially if you and the pooch like to play fetch at night. The balls are durable, although I don't allow the dog to have them once the fetch session is done--I think he would chew them to shreds. They're about the size of a tennis ball and weigh about the same as a baseball. The material is hard silicone, tough but with a little bit of "give" to it.
I have to replace the batteries every couple of months, assuming a 20-30 minute play session nearly every day. It's not too easy the first time. You need to pry out the plug--I use a small screwdriver--and the plug has an hourglass shape to keep it from working out on its own. Although it usually takes me several minutes to get the plug out, my dog managed to dislodge it on his own, and came back with the ball, less the plug and the light unit.
The light unit is a pea-size LED on a quarter-size circuit board, mounted on top of the battery holder. It takes two CR 2016 coin cells. When you order the... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Could be great but has issues, February 21, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I would give this 5 stars since this ball was the best thing since sliced bread...well until I had it a week and a half and it stopped working. I replaced the batteries (which is not easy by the way) and it lasted one day before it died again. Now it won't work at all. I contacted the manufacture and they are sending me a replacement part and were really good about it. Hopefully this will fix the problem. My friend has one as well and her's seems to still be going strong and has had it about 3 weeks now. So maybe you will have better luck, but be warned.
